One of my favourite albums is a compilation of acoustic recordings of pop songs. Songs that I used to find rather annoying in their up-tempo and over-produced studio versions can be a completely different kettle of fish when they are stripped back and an acoustic recording allows them to shine.
So for Jim Adam’s Song Lyric Sunday theme of “comparisons” I thought I would pick an acoustic recording of one song that was originally very much the product of the studio. I like both versions, but I do love the chance to compare them. This is Jessie Ware’s “Wildest Moments”.

You and I, bloodlines We come together every time Two wrongs, no rights We lose ourselves at night And from the outside, from the outside Everyone must be wondering why we try Why do we try? Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Maybe in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all Oo-ooh. Oo-ooh Rain on, a thunder sky Wherever there's smoke, there'll soon be fire What could bring bad luck, I've been looking at you too much And from the outside, from the outside Everyone must be wondering why we try Why do we try? Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Maybe in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Maybe in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all In the middle of it We walk, we walk the line Looking back I miss it Our wildest moments Are you thinking what if What if we ruined it all? My wrecking ball And from the outside, from the outside Everyone must be wondering why we try Why do we try? Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Maybe in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all Baby, in our wildest moments We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest Maybe in our wildest moments We could be the worst of all
Lady A. you make a great point about the acoustic version of this song being very different from the electric version. Jessie Ware has a lovely voice.

Thank you Jim. It’s amazing how very different a studio can make a composition sound.
