I Will Be Faithful

I have picked a song for today’s Song Lyric Sunday theme that it took me a very long time to warm to. When this track “Truly Madly Deeply” from Savage Garden, was first released, there was something about the sound that chafed with me. It had quite a lot of radio play, and I remember switching radio stations because I did not want to hear it again.

But years after it’s release, I remember an afternoon when I was in bed fighting a ghastly bout of flu, and feeling very sleepy. I heard this song and I did truly enjoy it. I checked the lyrics and was quite charmed by a verse in the middle of the song:

The tears of joy for all the pleasure and the certainty

I also read that the song was written during a time the band were sent from Brisbane to Sydney to write and record new music. Apparently, while away, Darren Hayes missed his wife and family so much he was prompted to write a song to express those feelings. Well, learning that, how could I not like his sentiments?

The song was a big hit in the charts, receiving endless radio play – leading the likes of me to switch it over when I heard it!! However, I now have a rekindled fondness for the song and I think it is a very sweet expression of longing for someone you love.
