I Hear She Cooks Delightfully

I Hear She Cooks Delightfully

Today’s Song Lyric Sunday song is a very pleasant one – and I am sure there will be many familiar songs featured. I have chosen perhaps a not so obvious song. I loved Dido’s music as soon as I heard her first album. I wanted to use one of her songs last week, but I realized that although the song was about loyalty, it did not feature that word at all. But it put me in the mood to listen to my Dido albums again, and provided me with a song for this week’s theme.

I was talking to a friend recently, who around three years ago ended a relationship of some fourteen years. However, they still live in the same vicinity, just five minutes walk from each other. I think she ended the relationship because in fourteen years, they were still living in separate houses, and she just felt a fool that although their lives were so tightly woven together, he found her impossible to live with. The past three years have been challenging for her because there is no sign of anyone else on the horizon for her, whereas he very quickly found himself a new girlfriend. We were chatting about the situation, and she said that currently, they are on speaking terms and when they bump into each other they will have a little chat.

But she made a comment that he is not looking great at the moment, which strangely made her feel a little better. She then looked at me and asked, “Does that sound awful?” I thought for a moment and replied, “I do understand.” I truly did. I think that one of the hardest aspects of a relationship ending must be seeing your ex looking happier with someone else than they were with you. It is insulting in some respects.

Robert and I have been together for so long, I sometimes forget what a break-up feels like, and how hurtful it can be to see the person who claimed he was in love with you, quickly replace you with someone who seems insufferably perfect! I think that is the sentiment captured by this track from Dido, called “Don’t Think Of Me”.

So you're with her
and not with me
I hope she's sweet
and so pretty
I hear she cooks delightfully
a little angel beside you
So you're with her
and not with me
Oh how lucky one man can be
I hear your house
is small and clean
Oh how lovely with your homecoming queen
Oh how lovely it must be

When you see her sweet smile baby
Don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms
Don't think of me

So you're with her
and not with me
I know she spreads sweet honey
In fact your best friend
I heard he spent last night with her
Now how do you feel

When you see her sweet smile baby
Don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms
Don't think of me

And it's too late and it's too bad
Don't think of me
Oh it's too late and it's too bad
Don't think of me

Does it bother you now all the mess I made
Does it bother you now the clothes you told me not to wear
Does it bother you now all the angry games we played
Does it bother you now when I'm not there

When you see her sweet smile baby
Don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms
Don't think of me

And it's too late and it's too bad
Don't think of me
Oh it's too late and it's too bad
Don't think of me
