It took me a while to settle on a song choice for today’s Song Lyric Sunday. Of course, I could have opted for the Frank Sinatra classic, but in an effort to feature something a little different, I ended up gravitating towards an album I have owed for over thirty years. It is one of those music from the movies compilations that we are all given as a gift at some point. Only, this one was definitely a keeper. The other songs on the album are so iconic, that I perhaps ended up skipping past this track.
I believe the film this was featured in was “Karate Kid II”, which I don’t think I ever watched. I do have a very vague memory of watching the first Karate Kid…once.
I don’t know a lot about Peter Cetera except that before he attempted a solo career, he was in the band Chicago (one of the best selling groups of all time). But I do know that this track topped the charts.

Tonight it's very clear 'Cause we're both lying here There's so many things I wanna say I will always love you I would never leave you alone Sometimes I just forget Say things I might regret It breaks my heart to see you crying I don't wanna lose you I could never make it alone I am a man who will fight for your honor I'll be the hero you're dreaming of We'll live forever Knowing together That we did it all for the glory of love You keep me standing tall You help me through it all I'm always strong when you're beside me I have always needed you I could never make it alone I am a man who will fight for your honor I'll be the hero You've been dreaming of We'll live forever Knowing together that we did it all For the glory of love It's like a knight in shining armor From a long time ago Just in time I will save the day Take you to my castle far away I am a man who will fight for your honor I'll be the hero that you're dreaming of We're gonna live forever Knowing together That we did it all for the glory of love We'll live forever Knowing together That we did it all for the glory of love We did it all for love We did it all for love We did it all for love We did it all for love
Peter Cetera’s then-wife Diane Nini also got a writing credit on this song, as she helped him figure out how to finish it. Nice choice Lady A.

That movies compilation album is how I know this song, but it sounds as if it was a big hit at the time.

Nice choice, love the Chicago sound when Cetera was in the band and enjoyed his solo work as well.

I don’t know a lot about the band Chicago, but they have a couple of songs that everyone knows, don’t they?

Chicago’s “Saturday In the Park” and Cetera’s “Your the Inspiration” are the two tracks that come to mind.
