Now I Come With Strange Excitement

Today’s Song Lyric Sunday theme is rather upbeat, and it has coincided with a wave of sadness that has washed over me this week. We are letting out our basement flat to a Sports Commentator working at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, so there is a lot of work to do to spruce up the place in ready for his arrival next in ten days time. In addition, the dishwasher in the basement flat has stopped working, so I have just had to book an engineer’s visit. Only, it is harder than I realized to linger down here as it flooding my mind with memories of my sweet friend who we had the privilege of hosting for a few months before she passed away back in March.

I used to come down and spend some time with her every day, and since we lost her, I have not wanted to come down here at all. My nephew Wills loves the basement flat. He likes to come down here and lounge on the sofa and watch television on the gigantic screen we installed here. I have no idea why we opted for such a large screen, but Wills says it makes the perfect home cinema.

Perhaps because I am touched by melancholy, I avoided an upbeat song choice, and instead opted for the comforting voice of Sophie B. Hawkins singing a song that I don’t remember ever hearing before. It is certainly not as memorable as some of her other hits, but still, she has a very pleasant voice.

I never thought that I could
Crash upon your sandy shores
And like the feeling of your warm security
It's not like me

Now I come with strange excitement
At your very touch I'm frightened
Don't I ask too much you tell me
'Long as I can keep on yelling

Don't don't tell me no
I want you to take my hand
Never ever let it go
Even if I make you mad
Darlin' every bit of love give
You will get more back
If you believe it

Who cares if it's forever
There's no time when we're together
Who cares if we don't worry
We don't even have to hurry

This is our world awaiting
For the sweetest penetrating
Love that we have found
Why don't we splatter it around and around

Don't don't tell me no
I want you to take my hand
Never ever let it go
Even if I make you mad
Darlin' every bit of love give
You will get more back
If you believe it

Don't don't tell me no
I want you to take my hand
Never ever let it go
Even if I make you mad
Darlin' every bit of love give
You will get more back
If you believe it

Why don't you stay
You make me laugh like it's forever
And cry like I have never
You heal my pain
Why can't we pray
Let's take the time to feel the weather
And love the world together
It's the only way

Don't don't tell me no
I want you to take my hand
Never ever let it go
Even if I make you mad
Darlin' every bit of love give
You will get more back
If you believe it

  1. We are not letting the flat our permanently at the moment, but we do have someone in there for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. If we had a permanent tenant, well, we are fussy about who we would want living here.

We are so glad we were able to have our dear friends over for a few months. It was just heartbreaking to see Joanna’s health decline. We miss her very much.
