The Month That Was…Wimbledon July

The Month That Was…Wimbledon July

Another glorious month – a typical British summer time – sun, rain, thunder and lightning, strawberries, Pimms, sunglasses, umbrellas, summer dresses and wellington boots (with sandals tucked into your bag just in case), garden parties and so much wonderful tennis. For two weeks, Wimbledon Village feels like the centre of the universe and we rather like it that way.

Wherever in the world you are, I hope you enjoyed the Wimbledon Tennis Championships – the sensational shots, the electric atmosphere, the fashions and fun, the humour and heart the players inject even during tense tennis matches. What an incredible final for the gentleman’s competition – incredible match. One of the best finals in years. We have a new male champion! Amongst many highlights from the tennis tournament, I picked up on two comments which I wanted to share. They are my two favourite quotes this month:

A loss is never a loss when you choose to learn from whatever you could have done better. There is so much positive to build on and a lot of goals left to achieve. I have never been happier on court…it’s time to recharge my batteries and enjoy life off court with the people I love.. ❤️❤️

Yanina Wickmayer (Belgian Tennis Superstar)

In addition…this was the most Wimbledon warning ever to be issued. But seriously…this is just law!

Ladies and gentlemen, please, if you are opening a bottle of champagne, don’t do it as a player is about to serve.

John Blom (Australian Tennis Umpire)

During July, I have tried to share some of the fun we have had here in Wimbledon Village. I admit, I have been rather busy scooting to and from the tennis and also feeding and entertaining guests. Looking over the posts I published during July – there is a distinctive taste of summer on display:

One of the events that we love surrounding Wimbledon Tennis Championships, is the way the shops and restaurants take part in the Wimbledon Windows Contest. The Village is adorned with flowers, tennis balls, window art and some stunning spectacles. We are allowed to vote for our favourite and prizes are given to the winners. This year, Hemingways Cocktail Bar snapped up the winning prize. Congratulations to Kelly and the team for their fabulous display of Wimbledon Winners:
