Feeling Like A Number One

Feeling Like A Number One

When I saw today’s Song Lyric Sunday theme, which is:

Hidden Gems: great songs that missed the top of the charts

…I was stumped. I am afraid I just had no ideas come to mind. So I asked the worldwide web for assistance. Sure enough there were sites that listed songs that allegedly did not do well in the charts. However, as always I have realized that it is important to take everything you read online with a big pinch of salt. The song I have chosen was apparently only ever #45 in the US Top or Hot 100 Charts. So I started preparing a post to feature it. Robert then told me that it reached #1 in the UK charts.

So…I was faced with a dilemma – should I switch my song? Life is too short. Some songs have done very well in certain countries, and have flopped in other countries. ABBA had a fantastic run of chart-toppers. I am not sure why “Super Trouper” failed to top the charts in the USA. It certainly does feel like a Number One!

Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
Like I always do
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you

I was sick and tired of everything
When I called you last night from Glasgow
All I do is eat and sleep and sing
Wishing every show was the last show
(Wishing every show was the last show)

So imagine I was glad to hear you're coming
(Glad to hear you're coming)
Suddenly I feel all right
(And suddenly it's gonna be)
And it's gonna be so different
When I'm on the stage tonight

Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one

Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Like I always do
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you

Facing twenty thousand of your friends
How can anyone be so lonely
Part of a success that never ends
Still I'm thinking about you only
(Still I'm thinking about you only)

There are moments when I think I'm going crazy
(Think I'm going crazy)
But it's gonna be alright
(You'll soon be changing everything)
Everything will be so different
When I'm on the stage tonight

Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one

Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Like I always do
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you

So, I'll be there when you arrive
The sight of you will prove to me I'm still alive
And when you take me in your arms and hold me tight
I know it's gonna mean so much tonight

Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one

Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Like I always do
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you

Super Trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one

Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)
Like I always do
(Sup-p-per Troup-p-per)

  1. It’s all a matter of taste isn’t it the Americans have very different taste to us as we do Inthe UK to Euro music. Yes great choice, for years I thought and sang “I was sick and tired of everything when I called you last night from Glasgow.” As I was sick and tired of everything
When I called you last night from Tesco ” yup I thought well there you go they obviously shop themselves..
    Misguided me 💜

  2. ABBA had a great run of chart-toppers. Now…their collection of music is so iconic, I bet nobody can recall which tracks topped the charts, and which were just so catchy they were impossible to forget once you had heard them.

    1. I was going to say they can be a little like Marmite to them, but actually I don’t think that is fair. They are more like the peanutbutter of pop – with most recognizing their fabulous contribution and enjoying their music – while you come across someone objectionable every now and then who says they don’t like ABBA.
