When I started to search for a song to pick for today’s Song Lyric Sunday theme, some pretty scary tracks popped up. It frightens me that there are so many angry songs out there, full of threats of violence. Naturally, I gravitated towards a song that is not at all frightening, even though it contains a woeful tale.
The song “Delilah”, and I have picked Tom Jones belting it out, is a story of a woman cheating on her man. The ending is rather a sorry one. But oh what a tune. It has almost a comical edge and this track has become so iconic, so famous, that back in 2012, Tom Jones even performed it for the royal family and the millions watching her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. I have memories of the royal family singing along to this track.

I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window I saw the flickering shadow of love on her blind She was my woman As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind My, my, my Delilah Why, why, why Delilah I could see, that girl was no good for me But I was lost like a slave that no man could free At break of day when that man drove away I was waiting I crossed the street to her house and she opened the door She stood there laughing I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more My, my, my Delilah Why, why, why Delilah So before they come to break down the door Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore She stood there laughing I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more My, my, my Delilah Why, why, why Delilah So before they come to break down the door Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore
